1) Preparing termite resistant paper from harmful and allergic weeds:
This project is done under Dr. Sunil Bhand (Asst Prof and Gr. Leader Chemistry Department, Bits-Pilani- Goa Campus). This project was submitted as a research work to Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, for the KVPY fellowship program. I have been awarded KVPY fellowship by IISc Bangalore on the basis of this project. I am among the 5 students (from 10,000 who applied) who have been awarded this fellowship for the year 2006.
About the project:
Various eco-friendly methods of weed control have been subjected to intense research. This paper provides one more novel and innovative way of weed control so as to convert harmful and allergic weeds into useful products. This is an attempt to make a paper from harmful and allergic weeds like Dhatura, which can be used for writing, decoration and packaging. The main intention of the experiments is to prepare a paper from such weeds and focus on improving its colour, strength, texture and termite resistance. This is an innovative way in using harmful weeds into useful and innocuous products.
2 Novel concepts for artificial knee joints-
This Project is done as a part of summer internship at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay under Prof. B. Ravi (Mechanical Department, IITB) . Four new concepts of designing of knee joints are reported in my work. Traditional drawbacks of artificial knee joints in total knee prosthesis are overcome by this work.
Socially Responsive projects:
1) Futurology-
This project was a part of Rural Development initiative undertaken by my secondary school. It included studying of the natural and human resources of a rural village (Chikhalgaon, Maharashtra, India) and predicting its future after a period of 5 years. We had to provide feasible solutions for the development of the village.
2) Waste management at BITS-Pilani University- Goa Campus
This project was undertaken to reduce the food wastage in the college campus. A detailed study of all the places where food wastage occurs, and the amount of wastage that occurs was made and feasible solutions were put forth the college administration to reduce the wastage.
